Soft washing uses much lower pressure combined with cleaning solutions that break down algae, mold and mildew. The solution does the cleaning and the surface is rinsed gently, so paint, stucco and siding aren't driven at with high pressure.
It is the right method any time pressure could cause damage. Durable hard surfaces like driveways and pavers are better served by pressure washing.
